But Is It Permanent?

At Coco Spa we are confident our laser hair removal therapy can result in dramatic long term reduction in hair growth in treated areas. No form of light based hair removal can permanently stop all hair growth. Partly this is due to how the body and skin work, partly its due to how laser hair removal works.

Firstly, the skin has a natural hair follicle renewal cycle. The skin constantly grows new hair follicles all over the body. This is a very slow process, and varies between different skin areas and happens more in some people than in others. But even if an area had all its hair follicles completely destroyed, there could be no guarantee that a few months later a new hair follicle would not have developed and be growing a new hair.
Secondly, laser hair removal only works on actively growing hairs. Only a limited proportion of hairs are actively growing at any one time. These are the ones which can be killed by laser. This is why multiple treatments are required for effective permanent hair reduction. The length of time between the growing phases of the hairs varies from area to area over the body so the number and frequency of treatments required to achieve a good cosmetic result differs depending on the area being treated.

Experience with Polaris Nd:YAG lasers suggests that about 40% of the hairs present in an area are killed on each treatment. Thus if an area had 100 hairs on it, we would expect it to take 5 treatment sessions to reach a point where less than 10 hairs remain. Depending on the area and the density of hairs, it is usual to expect 6 to 10 sessions to be required to achieve cosmetically acceptable results.

Thus no form of light based hair removal can claim to be permanent - and previous excessive claims by less reputable operators has resulted in such claims being effectively legally banned in the UK.
