Over recent years a variety of different light based technologies have been developed for the removal of unwanted hair on the face, limbs and body. They have rapidly become popular, as they can be very effective and are safe, fast and virtually pain free when performed by a skilled therapist. They are vastly quicker and less painful than electrolysis, the only effective long term hair removal therapy previously available.
A variety of different laser equipement is available for use on the skin, as well as non laser Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machines. Not all of these are suitable for hair removal. Although IPL machines can be effective in hair removal, they are more variable and dependant on the skill and experience of the operator than the best of the laser machines.
At Coco Spa we use a Long Pulsed Nd:YAG Laser developed by Polaris Medical.
Laser because we believe it is more consistent and reliable than IPL in many situations.
Long Pulsed because short pulsed YAG lasers are not effective in hair removal (although they have other medical uses on the skin).
Nd:YAG lasers produce the right wavelenght of light to destroy hair follicle growth.
Nd:YAG lasers are the only lasers which can be safely used on all skin types 1 to 6.
